BiographyThe Big Picture: The Roland Kickinger FileCompiled by Jim Rosenthal, Senior Writer Full name: Roland Kickinger. Age: 28. Date of birth: March 30, 1969. Place of birth: Vienna, Austria. Current residence: Venice Beach, California. Height: 6'4". Contest weight: 300 pounds. Offseaon weight: 320 pounds. Marital status: Single. Pets: An Australian shepherd named Fritz, who is a pain in the ass, and 14 cats: Mickey, Theresa, Oreo, Bear, Ice Princess, Sebastian, Dominic, Raven, Sylvester, Chocolate Chip, Cocoa Puff, Spidey, Cream Puff and Popo. How did I end up with so many cats? It all began with Mickey - my friend Loredana Nesci thought he looked lonely so I took him in. Then I asked Loredana to go to the Sav-on drug-store for me and she came back with Theresa and Oreo - an old man hanging out in front of the store gave her the cats. Before I knew it, Theresa and Oreo were pregnant (they looked like they had swallowed basketballs) thanks to Mickey, and now I am begging to give some of the cats away. First bodybuilding contest: The NABBA Newcomer Contest in Austria, where I placed first. Major win: My most significant win was the 1994 Nationals in Austria -- this was the contest that allowed me to turn pro. Role model in bodybuilding: Zabo [Koszewski], who trains at the World Gym in Venice Beach , California. The amazing Zabo is 74 years old and doesn't look a day over 20. You can wash your clothes on his abs! He runs on the treadmill for one hour every day, and I swear he doesn't even break a sweat. The bodybuilder whose physique you most admire: Aaron Baker. He has a perfect physique and the best smile in bodybuilding -- those teeth are simply perfect.
The bodybuilder whose personalit you most admire: Will Harris, who trains at the World Gym in Venice. Will is one of the most genuine people I've ever met; he works hard in and out of the gym. He is a caring father and would do anything for a friend. I hope he reads this because he deserves the praise. Highlights of career: My Weider contract has made me appreciate my efforts in the gym even more. Other highlights include receiving my pro card from Wayne DeMilia; meeting Joe Weider for the first time; and although it's not necessarily a bodybuilding-related achievement, getting my green card from my attorney, Joe Feldun. Biggest disappointment of career: Getting food poisoning in China right before the 1994 World Amateur Championships. I lost 25 pounds in one week -- and I also lost the show! Best bodypart: My chest and arms. Worst bodypart: My left index finger -- it has a wicked scar! Favorite exercise: Anything that makes me a better athlete. Least-favorite exercise: I don't have one. Traits you admire most in others: Perseverance, honesty, good hygiene, sense of humor, intelligence, love of God, sharp dressing. Traits you admire most in yourself: I am an excellent cook. I'm a down-to-earth person. I'm a hard worker. I'm honest. And I'm always trying to better myself. Favorite city: Vienna, of course; there's no place like home. Favorite writer: John Steinbeck. Everyone should read Of Mice and Men. Favorite film: Rocky. Favorite actor: Ralf Moeller. Favorite musician: Ludwig van Beethoven. Favorite athlete: Dan Turk (Oakland Raiders). Favorite food: Kaiserschmarren (a sweet Austrian omelet) served with plums and vanilla ice cream. Favorite binge-out treat: Charlie Temmel's ice cream at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Favorite automobile: A white Ford Bronco. Idea of a perfect vacation: Relaxing on a beach in Hawaii. Possessions you prize above all others: My Bronco, my computer, my fax machine, my microwave, my refrigerator and my oven. Person you most admire: Robert Nesci, one of my best friends. He's a New York City police officer who picks me up from the airport and gives me manicures. What you would want to be if you weren't a pro bodybuilder: An actor and a part-time waiter. People who have been major influences on you bodybuilding career: Joe Weider, the one and only Master Blaster. Josef Weinstein, powerlifting champion. And my mother because she cooked my precontest food. What you like most about bodybuilding: The travel and the publicity. It is a healthy liftstyle. What you dislike most about pro bodybuilding: I must eat six times a day, prepare all my meals and carry them with me wherever I go -- it can be a very confining existence. Long-term bodybuilding ambition: To reach my potential. Long-term personal ambition: To be a success in my chosen profession. |
