This is written one year after the interview was done. I want to put this interview on Henry's
homepage, under the Imhotep-section, because I want you to read this excellent
interview answered by Odin of DEINONYCHUS. My intention with this is that you can see the
quality of my questions, and the interviews as a whole. This interview was written for my #1. Now
my #2 is released, as you already have read, I guess. Buy both my issues. Thanx for the company!
This interview is very long, and I will say "hail" to ODIN for the very good and thoughtful answers. I really hope you sell fucking many albums and then can be able to create good music for the future. Everybody, buy his album. Let the story begin:
IM: DEINONYCHUS. That is really an original and strange name. What does it mean? How did you come up with that name? From your weird mind or what?
ODIN: At first I have to go off with these words, that I again hold a very interesting interview in my hands. And that's very rare these days, hail you!
DEINONYCHUS is actually the name of a dinosaur. The word is Greek, which actually also stands for "terrible claw". DEINONYCHUS possessed very powerful claws, with which he rapidly killed his enemies. This dinosaur must have been very intelligent because of his survive/attack skills, I guess that makes him so special in my eyes, he represents for me power and knowledge. The name DEINONYCHUS came across me in some booklet. Further I think it's a very original name. As you look upon all those names bands give themselves these days, I'll think you agree!
IM: Well, wonder a little bit, where is DARKLAND? Can you describe this piece of land? What happens when there is A SHINING BLAZE OVER DARKLAND? As you probably have noticed, I refer to the 3rd song from your mighty PROMO-93, and there is no lyric sheet.
ODIN: DARKLAND is the land which I created in my mind. This land is the land I will walk when I leave this earthly existence. DARKLAND looks very cold to the outside world, it inherits seas of blood and a kinda black landscape. Those kinda pseudo-black people of today now must think something like 'whaaw, this looks great to me' with no further thinking behind it, of course. Well, wrong!!! Of course the lyric does not handle about the land itself, it tells what the land reflects. You know, the land looks kinda somber and depressive. For everybody who hasn't noticed yet..... those depressive views kinda create positive feelings inside you. Those who ever feeled down through any memory, and one day conquer the fear of those memories, can after that proudly say: ".... I've learned from it, and feel quite better after it!!!" To come to the point, if I one day will walk on the paths of DARKLAND, it will repay me for everything I offered for entering this land like knowledge, suffering etc. Finally I will earn eternal life and live a very peaceful existence. Those who don't agree with my statements, have not found their "land" yet!!!
THE SHINING BLAZE OVER DARKLAND is a kind of sign for my arrival to this land. Of course the lyrics aren't literally. They need a look through! Then you'll understand!
IM: How have you reached the musical skills you are in today? When did you start to practice instruments? I guess you have to practice a lot, since you played all the instruments on the PROMO-93 yourself.
ODIN: I started to play instruments 4 years ago. I've started to play bass 2 years ago, then I skipped to drums in the time I still was involved in the Dutch Black metal band MALEFIC OATH. So after I left MALEFIC OATH , I was kinda good at handling the drumsticks and bass. In early `93 I learned to play guitar, which I became very good at, as it is my own opinion, of course. All in all ....for DEINONYCHUS I only rehearse the guitarparts, the bassparts are in some way the same as the guitarparts. Anyway.. the only thing that stands before I go into a studio are the bass/guitar-tracks and the lyrics. The drums and vocals are totally improvised since I can't rehearse them at home!!! And besides of that all, I do rehearse only a few days in 2 months or so. In my opinion I guess you already need some musical skills before you even touch any instruments, I guess not everybody is able to start a one-man band!
IM: Is it difficult to play all the instruments? The music is not that technical, but anyway. How do you practice? Do you write down the music on paper, or do you keep it within your head?
ODIN: As I said above I only rehearse the guitar-tracks which isn't difficult. Except for the bass-parts, all is improvised. The drum-parts are very difficult to play, whatever they sound like, technical or just simple. All the music I've written, I just keep in my head, I write nothing on paper, except for the lyrics, of course.
IM: Your music is a kind of difficult to describe. Maybe in the vein of ABRUPTUM. What are your influences? Is there any category in special you are influenced by?
ODIN: My musical influences I gain from bands like MAYHEM, EMPEROR, ABRUPTUM, AT THE GATES, TYPE O NEGATIVE, DARK THRONE, POSSESSED and a few others. I guess I'm also very influenced by gothic and folk bands like CLANNAD and DEAD CAN DANCE. Of course you cant find sounds like these in my music, but I try to create such a chilling atmosphere in my music.
IM: How are you influenced by your influences? Do you think that you have to do almost the same as your influences? When a band brings in a female vocalist, do you then go ape-shit and think: "I have to bring in a female vocalist!"? How do you think that female vocalists fit into Black, Death metal? F.ex. bands like PARADISE LOST, SADNESS, DARK TRANQUILLITY, and so on.
ODIN: I do not try to copy their sound identically, but I try create the atmospheres they have in their songs, whatever it is.... violence, hate or sadness etc. The fact that people say my music sometimes can be compared with EMPEROR and DARK THRONE only flatters me! Anyway I don't want to copy my influences, I guess I would fail anyway!!!!
No, I would never consider such a question..... female vocals are beautiful, so they perfectly fit into melodrama music like DEAD CAN DAN and alot more, but not into pure blackmetal. If I would make a kinda different sound, I maybe would consider it for some vocal-parts, but for now...... NO!!!! Anyway, of course I would never do it because of the fact that another bands got one!
Well, as I said before, female vocals aren't for Black metal, but actually if the music sounds kinda somber and melancholic, whatever it is, death or Black metal, I guess it could fit in some parts! You named for example PARADISE LOST, well I am only into their first two albums, but I guess the female appearances on the GOTHIC album are excellent!!!
IM: HOLLAND or THE NETHERLANDS, what is the difference between these two names? To INVERTED PENTAGRAM I have to write THE NETHERLANDS and to you I have to write HOLLAND. How is life in your country? Do you enjoy living in your homeland (if HOLLAND is your homeland)? Is the prices low there? In fucking Norway, almost everything is expensive.
ODIN: Basically "the Netherlands" is the literally translation of the Dutch word "Nederland" into English. I think in Norway, the people also say "Nederland" if it comes to Holland, or am I wrong? Actually there's no difference between Holland or The Netherlands. But Holland is just the more used international word for my homeland. Here in my country there is also another meaning for Holland. The people from the South (where I live) always say to people who ask for some place in the North "oooh, that's in Holland!" You'll know, the most Northern places in my land are also called Holland. You know, its kinda a territory! Strange....isn't t it!?!
Yes, I do enjoy living in my homeland for the simple fact, I build up my existence over here. There had to change alot before I would leave my country, you know what I mean!
No, I guess we have the same problems as in Norway...here all is fucking expensive. But happily I earn alot of money. For Dutch terms, Norway is much more expensive than Holland.
IM: I guess you are in contact with a lot of people. Do you spend much time writing letters to people? Do you work? How do you get hold of money in your daily life? Have you ever robbed banks? Why or why not?
ODIN: Actually I do not spend much time on my mail because of the simple fact that I do have a full-time job in two shifts, and I have to take care of more things! As I said, I have a full-time job, I work in a factory which produces bathroom-stuff(!). Not quite paradise over there, but I make good money, so I haven't to worry about getting hold of it in my daily life.
No, I never robbed a bank for the simple fact that I don't want to get caught or even go to jail! I guess I feel to proud to do something like that. It maybe sounds strange but I have more respect for people who do something for their money, like working, create music, being an artist or whatsoever, than rob something. People who try to get money by descent work or whatsoever have personality and character. You'll know.... the will to fight for something, if it comes to their existence. And I also know that something of this spirit lives in the true beings in this scene.
IM: You have told me that you are an occultist. What is this? Do you spend time doing rituals? Where and when are you doing these rituals (if you are doing some)?
ODIN: Well, to me an Occultist is someone who can think and create things beyond this earthly existence. It is a fact to me that an Occultist lives a double-life. To make some clear....an Occultist is NO satanist!!
About rituals, you have lots of forms which you can call a ritual. I practise meditation-rituals, which I mostly do at night when I am totally calm and on my own. In my rituals I think beyond and look into the future, for now these things I see and think are all things which have to do with myself in this life or another!!! But I know for sure that I will be able to look and think for other beings in the future, who asks for it. This rituals also take place by the sounds of movies and kinda weird music, like MORTAL CONSTRAINT. The music is important to me for the fact that it awakes your subconsciousness while you are totally calm and don't make holds for problems in daily life or thoughts of the same. In a way it also inspires me to create some parts for my lyrics. If people do things in the same way as I do, I would like them to contact me at once, and share their thoughts!!!
IM: Do you read books? What kind of books? Horror, science-fiction, humour or something? Have the books you read any kind of influence upon your lyrics? In what way?
ODIN: Yes, I do read books, but only when time is there! I've read books from science-fiction till humour. All those books create a kind of emotion inside of you, and that's unbelievable. When I read a book I totally live myself within the story of it, whatever it is about.... hate, love, humour or even horror and so on. The wonderful thing of a book is that you have to create your own world of it, which you'll never can do while you watching a movie! I prefer books with a good story above horror. Besides I also reads books with Satanic and Occult subjects, but these books kinda teach you and whatever you learn of it depends on your will!!!!!
Yes....in some way the books I read have some influence on me, mostly in the way of logical thinking!!!!!!
IM: EVIL. What does this word mean to you? How can somebody say that he/she is more evil than somebody else? Is it evil to scare or knock-down people? Corpse-paint in the face, is it really necessary to look evil? KISS used corpse-paint back in earlier times, but where they evil? KISS= Kids In Satan`s Service(oh, I am so scared)
ODIN: Actually the word "evil" says nothing to me, because of the
fact that this does says nothing about the person or thing what has got labelled within this term! What is evil???? Everybody has another look on it. But what I know for sure.... nobody can say he or she is evil because of things they do, but only can in the way they are!!!
Again I say I don't know in what way I should use the word "evil" , I'll think it has something to do with the character of the being who got or has labelled itself with it!!! Anyway, I would not call myself evil.
I guess there's nobody who can judge about who is most evil. No, its not evil to scare or knock-down people, those things happen when your mind is imprisoned by alot of problems, which mostly caused only by yourself, if not you could always have an excuse or blame someone else!
Corpsepaint got labelled "evil" by the pseudo-satanic kids in this scene. Everybody should have a reason to wear it, and I guess most or even some have, so I don't agree with the statement that corpsepaint would make you look "evil"! I guess alot of people misunderstood..... KISS never used to wear corpsepaint. This again proves the lack of thinking in this scene. Just look at the word CORPSEPAINT, this word has a literal meaning!
IM: Please, name 4 bands you really want us to listen to. Also tell us why we should hear these 4 bands.
ODIN: AT THE GATES, TYPE O NEGATIVE, DEAD CAN DANCE, EMPEROR........ as you see, four bands within four totally different music genres!
Those four bands create all together emotions like hate/love/violence/somberness, but in that way I wouldn't say violence is an emotion anyway.... I would say... listen to these bands and find out these emotions for yourself, just give it a try....
IM: What is most important, lyrics or music? What are your lyrics influenced by, mainly? Which bands write the best lyrics, in your opinion? Why do you like these lyrics?
ODIN: I guess both are important because the lyrics tell you how the music have to sound! If you have some real sad lyrics, the music would have to be really melancholic in my opinion. But in one way I guess the lyrics are a bit more important because the music is only a helping hand to reflect the message of your lyric. If you aren't able to do it this way, I suggest to write a book or whatsoever. But I guess this is much more difficult.
My lyrics are mainly influenced by my thoughts and all around it. I can't tell you what band who write the best lyrics. But I guess a band like AT THE GATES writes wonderful lyrics, because of the fact that only a real personality could write such lyrics, that's all!!!
IM: Is it important that the reader of the lyrics have to think to understand the meaning behind those? Some lyrics are easy to understand, f.ex those of DEICIDE, some are not that easy, f.ex. those of DARK TRANQUILLITY. Which do you prefer? Do you spend much time reading lyric sheets?
ODIN: That depends on the listener himself. Those who try to do, actually get my respect, because of the fact that they do not see the lyrics and music just as a kind of cheap entertainment. Yes, I prefer the more difficult lyrics because they need alot more of logical thinking than those simple ones. It's actually a short book, such a difficult lyric, it takes you to another world, which mainly depends on the story behind it. Yes, I always like to read the lyric-sheets from bands I at first like musically!
IM: Religion is quite interesting, although I am anti-religious. What do you think about religion, in general? What do you think about people who believe in something as abstract as GOD or SATAN? Why do they believe? Are they in lack of self-confidence?
ODIN: I think religion exists only for creating the apocalypse of mankind, which doesn't bother me at all! People who believe in a deity like god or satan do have, as you said lack of self-confidence, or even are afraid to stand up for their own statements!!! Those people aren't in possession of a real personality, they are actually weak!!!! To make something clear here, in this question you asked me about god and satan as living deities, which never existed, in my opinion. So for the satanists in this scene, I dislike any form of Goatworshipping because this is really unreal. Those who find out real way of satanism have my deeply respect!
IM: Do you believe in any gods? I like to read about ODIN, THOR and the Viking age. Do you? Why are, do you think, so many of the Black metallers inspired by the Viking age? I know that there was much violence, but were the Vikings really evil? The Vikings were called heathen by the christians, maybe that is one reason for liking the Vikings?
ODIN: I maybe do, but I don't know if it has a name!!! Yes, I've read some of the viking-myths and liked it, but as none of these has to do with MY ancestors, I just like it, and don't look further in it, if you know what I mean! Those bands who can say the vikings where ancestors of us, are in my opinion the only people who are really able to write down the real viking-myth, like the Norwegian bands, of course. The fact that those were their ancestors, is in my opinion the reason that these bands write down such lyrics. Which is no problem to me, but if they say WE ARE VIKINGS!!!, I just feel something like disgrace for them. The vikings became a myth by things they did. Don't try to turn back time, otherwise this myth would be destroyed!!!!!!!!!!! Again I have to say the word evil means nothing to me, but as for your question.. ...I guess the vikings were brutal and survived their time. So I guess evil isn't the right word.
Maybe..... but I guess that's a little poor.
IM: Let us speak a little about the development of the music industry. Why, do you think, are the Black metal people so much against MTV? I will not stop listening to SATYRICON if they put out a video for MTV. Anyway, I don't think that will happen. I saw a video form SAMAEL`s latest album on MTV. Do you think they will sell more albums after this? When releasing albums, the bands will sell as much albums as possible. They will earn money. Is this right?
ODIN: I guess Black metal isn't something you must give away, because it inherits more than music. Those who know it, will find the music itself. MTV would only expose Black metal like a cheap entertainment.
As for SAMAEL, I don't know if they would sell more albums after this video, but I know for sure that this is the goal CENTURY MEDIA wants to achieve with this video!!!!
As for earning money with selling albums, if you signed with a good label and the selling are successful, you are probably going to earn some money!
IM: DARK THRONE have said that they make the music for themselves. There are other bands too, who have said this. Why do they release albums then? Why not just sit at home playing what they want to? I have to mention that I am glad for the fact that they release albums.
ODIN: Well, I don't want to waste my time on this question, I'll think they don't know what they say!
IM: Is what we can call the underground today too much commercialised? Are there too much business and too little originality within the scene? Is money too important?
ODIN: I think the commercialisation in the Black metal scene of today isn't as big as Death metal became, but I'll think it will happen with Black metal too sooner or later! As for the "trend" in this scene, I guess this happened because of the fact the kids of today have no self-confidence! They all want to be part of something, and want to be something!!!, but search in the wrong direction, as you look at all those crap-bands you'll understand.....
The business destroys the originality within this scene, because of the fact that bands get signed in no time, they just haven't the time to progress! And then I talk only about the bands who are for real!!! Yes, for the business only money matters, it will be always this way.
IM: SEPULTURA is to me a great band, when I take a look at their 2 first albums. I think they are too boring now.
Is this band commercial? Do they play the music they really want to, or do they play what their fans want to expect them to play? If they had come from England, do you think that they would have reached the same attention as they now have reached? What I mean is that since they are from BRAZIL, they sell more albums. Is this right? Therefore, I just would ask, is it the press that commercialise SEPULTURA, or what?
ODIN: Yes, SEPULTURA are defiantly commercial! I do not know these guys personal , but I guess they are commercialised by the music-industry. And the music-industry is influenced by the people who buy their products. Well, I guess nobody cant deny the fact that a band who brings a product into the market, wants to sell as much as possible of it. So if the people are really into death/industrial, I'll think a commercial-label will put their band in the direction of this music-style, just to sell more albums, and I guess the same happened with SEPULTURA. But this does not take away the fact that this band has betrayed itself, because they have. Otherwise they would just try to get rid of their contract. But as you know, money is very powerful!!! Anyway, I wouldn't dare to look at myself in the mirror if I did something like that!!!
I don't know if SEPULTURA would gained the same popularity if they had come from England. But what I know for sure is the fact that their homeland Brazil was surely of big influence in the sells-strategy of the music industry. Just look at sentences like "death from the Jungle" or "third world posse". This sounds really ridiculous to me. Anyway, I cant tell you that it is a fact that their selling more album since their are from Brazil! As for the press....they are united with the music-industry, so you don't have to search for this answer!
IM: Nowadays, there are quite many record labels. Are there too many? If there were fewer labels, then there would be fewer albums released. Are there too many bad bands? Would these bands have released albums if there were fewer labels? Are the labels too little critical according to what albums they release?.
ODIN: Yes... there are too many labels who discovered Black metal! Yes, there are too many bad bands, but I guess this counts for every music-scene. I guess the bad bands wouldn't have the chance to release an album if there were just a few labels. Its a fact to me that the labels who are just lack with signing bands are the labels who just want to make money and haven't the slightest idea what Black metal is all about. Look for yourself... labels like CACOPHONOUS/ OSMOSE/ HEAD NOT FOUND/ MOONFOG/ NECROMANTIC GALLERY
PROD. mostly have very good bands, just of the fact that they really understand this music, and of the fact that the owners of those labels aren't only business-people, but also fans of this musicgenre!!!!
IM: Is your contract with your label good? Tell us a little about it, without going in detail. Are they in contact with other bands than CRADLE OF FILTH and you?
ODIN: Yes, the contract is good, further I don't want to get in details, because it makes no sense to me.
Besides of CRADLE OF FILTH and me(DEINONYCHUS) CACOPHONOUS already signed up SIGH and GEHENNA I believe. Further they released a 7" by MEGGIDO, and a full-length of PRIMORDIAL is also on its way. I guess CACOPHONOUS has more contacts and there are more bands who will get signed. Time will tell....
IM: Some say that they prefer the Norwegian scene, while others say that they prefer the Greek or the Finnish or whatever scene. What do you prefer? What scene has most originality? Why, in your opinion, consists the Norwegian scene of so many Black metal bands, while f.ex. the Swedish has so many Death metal bands? Has it something to with the old traditional Viking beliefs?
ODIN: I absolutely prefer the Norwegian scene, there's no doubt about it, Norway has the best scene in the world! You know, if it comes to real dark atmosphere and melancholism I don't have to look further than to bands like SATYRICON, EMPEROR or even MANES. These bands just got it! If I listen to bands like the German MARYRICUM or to the US band HAVOHEJ.... these bands just don't get any grip at me, there's no feeling in their songs. Sometimes they just sound kinda techno-thrash or whatsoever, it's not that I want to attack these bands, but that is just my honest opinion!!!(Fair enough, but of course there a good bands from other countries, but not as many as in Norway - IM).
I guess if it comes to originality, I also prefer the Norwegian bands, but unfortunately in these days originality seems to fade away, because of the simple fact that there are too many bands in Norway. And it is a pity that the original bands in your country now totally drown in this so fucked up scene. Happily bands like THORNIUM will come up with a 7"(must be out already if you read this). So they can prove what a real Norwegian sound is all about!!!(Odin later wrote to me and told me that THORNIUM is from SWEDEN. Another thing is that they has released an album by now - IM) The fact that Norway has so many Black metal bands, is kinda the influence the legend MAYHEM had. After the dead of DEAD and all rumours about it, bands just popped out from nowhere. Now after Euronymous got killed and Count Grishnack became imprisoned, things really got out of hand! Now everybody starts a band and dedicates their products to Euronymous. For sure alot of bands were in contact with him, even I was. But as I look at all those countless thanks-lists of bands who just entered the scene for half a year ago, and hailing Euronymous and MAYHEM, I really have to puke, those people didn't even know him personally. They just rape the legend MAYHEM for "coming over" if you know what I mean. Actually MAYHEM is also mentioned on the thanks-list of my debut-CD, and even one song is dedicated to Euronymous, but for me I can say, I really have my reasons for it, I had good contact with this man. For all those who now are "members" of the BURZUM task "Dungeon of Darkness''.... you people really don't know what you are dealing with. Worshipping a guy like Grishnack is even worse than worshipping Christ!!!!! That again proves how many kids out there in the scene!!
Anyway... as for your question, I don't think that Norway has so many bands because of the Viking-myth. This all started before....
IM: In Norway, we have high mountains, fjords and deep valleys, among others. There has always been superstition about Troll, Huldras and other creatures which lives in the dark forests and within the mountains. Do you find such superstition interesting? Why do people become superstitious? Do we need something frightening and mysterious to think about?
ODIN: Yes, I find it really interesting, if I look at all those tv-programs about this subject, I really enjoy it! I think people become superstitious for the reason that they feel lost in one way. There must be something around them, that still says "here we are, we are with you". Of course, this do not only count for deities who deal with superstitious beliefs, it could also be things. Anyway, I think superstitious beliefs strengthens the soul! Yes, for sure we need frightening and mysterious stuff to think about! It keeps your soul awake, and it teaches you to think clear about those things. Anyway.... it's a fact to me.... never underestimate somebody who can live with fear, because such a person can be more dangerous than somebody who doesn't know fear! Somebody who knows the emotion fear, thinks more clearer, than somebody who doesn't!!
IM: Your album, which I look very forward to, is to be released these days.(Released when the mag. is finished) Tell us about it. Lyricwise, what kind of subjects does it deal with? What is most important with this album, the hate, the coldness, other emotions or what?
ODIN: Well, my album was recorded back in Aug `94, the mix was done in Oct `94. The longplayer contains nine tracks with intro/outro, and has a play time of 67. min.(The CD has a playtime for 60 min. - IM)
I prefer to say that the lyrics are in a occult way. They are all meant to be read well and to think through. Some lyrics come close to my life, or what has to become of it afterwards. Others deal with kinda reality stories mixed with an Occult touch. Anyway, I prefer to say that you should read them for yourself and make your own opinion about them!
Well, I guess the most important thing on this album is that it deals with all kinds of emotions the human being deals with. This album leads you through the world of emotions.... for one moment you are stuck in somberness, which will turn into hate. Anyway, what I want to expose with this album is that the people who really take the time to listen to it carefully, and read the lyrics, and then find out for themselves that everybody has something special inside, you can be something only if you want and fight for it............................ go over this border.... learn to think beyond!!!! In my opinion, in one way this album brings you emotionally really down, but for me this brings kinda positive feelings within me. Those who feel real down, and lost all hope in whatsoever, must think after travelling through this album... this never happens to me, I am not what you think! Those who feel stronger and feel proud for themselves really do understand my message behind this album. Anybody who wants to, can conquer "the silence of December", which is the title of the album!
Further I want to make this statement to all those pseudo-bands........
As you might see my album reflects in one way a positive outbreak. Those of you now might think..."phaaw, what a wimp". Anwway you pseudo-kids out there, tell me what makes you so sure that living constantly depressed and in hate, what make you so strong?!?! ......Let me say this to you.. you are all just losers, you cant deny that you are just hating yourself for being nothing!!!! It is so fucking cool in these days to say.... "I am a misantrophe, love is for wimps"! Love is an emotion every outstanding human being should be carrying within his life. And I am proud to say I do! I love all those people who really care about me, and those from who I can say, they are my brothers and sisters. See it as a fact.... nobody can live on his own!!!! Ha! You pseudo-satanic kids still might not think positively within the so-called satanic-community isn't possible. Well, you all misunderstand! I know lots of REAL satanists who enjoy to have fun and also can love and laugh!!!!, and who are more serious than one of you ever might be.... remember that!!! Anyway, I am now removing to far from the subject I was talking about, as you might see. Anyway I had to say this!
IM: In Holland, there is little censorship within the film industry. How is your view upon censorship? Why?
ODIN: Censorship keeps the people stupid. Those who never saw real amputated limbs in kinda horror movies, since their are cut out, or reality-action scenes will sooner or later make them reality for themselves. Those will be kept in a fantasy dreamworld, and will sooner or later emerge to real wacko's or even killers. Look at those serial killers as Jeffrey Dahmer who's recently got killed. This man really looked harmless to me and I guess he's been kept from all reality in this world and never had the opportunity to find out things. So he started a fantasy which became a real obsession for him, which turned out to become reality to him. I don't blame him for what he did, it is the society who did it! Anyway I'll think censorship is one of the links who bring us to apocalypse....
IM: Do you watch many films? What sort of films do you prefer? When you see a film, do you look for inspiration, message or meaning, or do you simply watch it just for the entertainment? Why?
ODIN: No, I don't watch that much to TV or movies. Anyway, I prefer films which possesses highly classified stories, whatever it is... reality or
science-fiction. Those films who need alot of "seeing through" are my faves. I prefer the movies from Clive Barker and Stephen King and some others within this genre. Further I like "based upon a real story"-films like "the secret of Jeffrey Dahmer" and "Kalifornia.
If I watch a film, and its done, I can ask my self the question: "did you find out the meaning and message of this movie"? If I can say yes, I really enjoyed this movie, and it was really good in my opinion! Anyway... in some way I also look at films as kinda entertainment, because of the lack of a good story in it!
IM: When will music go from here? Will we head for new directions, set new trends? What will be the next trend? Do you think that Black metal will last longer than Death metal in being most popular?
ODIN: I guess never, music is an emotion which never can be separated from the soul! If we will ever set for new directions and trends???? I guess only future can tell..... I don't know for sure... but in my opinion the next trend will end up between a mixture of Gothic/wave and Black metal or even only Gothic. As for me this is only a suggestion, I haven't the slightest idea yet. Ask me the same question in some years, ha! If Black metal will last longer than Deathmetal in being popular??? It is a fact to me that the "trend" hasn't start really yet!!!! Anyway, I don't know for sure.
IM: Please, write 3 questions. You can choose if you want me to answer those or if you want to answer them yourself. You can ask about anything.
ODIN: Well, Roy, I guess these three questions have to be answered by you, since you did a great job, by giving me one of the most interesting interviews ever!!!!(Thank you, your answers were great - IM) OK, I start up from here: I hope this questions are interesting enough to answer for you................
l. If you could change history, what would you change in the history of the 2nd world war?
IM: Well, it could have been cool if Hitler had entered another country instead of Russia. Then we have all been Germans by now, and we could all have been saying : Deutschland über alles. It didn't happen, and I am glad for that.
I think that Chamberlain (PM of England in the beginning of the war) and the French leader were fucking cowards who let Hitler do what he wanted to do. They knew about Poland (as far as I know), and could have stopped Hitler then, but they thought that Hitler might be pleased with Poland. Well, we all saw how it ended. In my opinion, they should have stopped Hitler at an earlier point of time. Of course, the concentration camps should have been avoided. I am glad I did not live at that time, and had to go into a concentration camp.
Another thing is that the Europeans knew about Pearl Harbour, but they did not tell the Americans because they wanted the Americans to join the war. This was quite clever from the Europeans, because without the Americans entering the war at that time we might have been Germans right now, and the Germans might have won the war. The nuclear-bomb was necessary.
I also want to state that I have nothing against the German people of today. I don't think they should be punished for what their fathers did. Anyway, Fuck off to the new Nazi people. They are not what I would call «thinking humans»!!!!
2. List three things/beings for me which makes life worthy for you, with the knowledge that you travel beyond and become immortal?
IM: Fucking female is the very best memory I will ever be in the possession of.
Another thing is the memory of all the great music I have heard since I started to listen to music, and especially dark and evil music. Music is what I want to bring together with me to another dimension.
Finally, being a person with self-confidence makes my life worthy for me. When I see all the weak persons in this life, I just laugh and avoid them. They mean nothing to me.
3. Which message would you leave, if you would die someday, and leave this earthly existence?
IM: Fuck all religions, especially christendom and islam. Think for your self and finally, get yourself laid. This might be a short message, but in fact I think religion in general is bad. Of course, there are in my opinion good things within religion, like some of the ten commandments, but religion often creates misunderstandings and wars. I don't think war is good, but sometimes in our world it is necessary. Another thing with religion is that it often creates worship, and I don't think worshipping of any kind is good. Respect for something is better.
IM: Now the end is near. You can leave this interview. I hope we meet sometime!
Write an fucking poem or whatever!!!
