This short biography was sent to me by Euronymous in 1993. I had no intentions of using it - but I think today that it fits to the Euronymous page - as he definitely Was Mayhem. The only band member who stayed with the band till the end.

Keep in mind that it is old.

Mayhem was formed in 1984 by Euronymous on guitar, Manheim on drums and Necro Butcher on bass. Influenced by black metal bands such as VENOM, BATHORY, HELLHAMMER, DESTRUCTION, and SODOM.
In 1985 the first gig was played with a session vocalist - Messiah. The first demo - "Pure Fucking Armageddon" was released in 1986 in 100 numbered copies; now re-released.
Maniac became vocalist in autumn '86, and in winter of '87 the "Deathcrush" demo/mini-LP was recorded; also featuring Messiah. The mini-LP was released in 1000 numbered copies and sold out during '88. A re-release is currently being put out on Mayhem's record label "Deathlike Silence".
After the release of the mini-LP, Maniac and Manheim left the band and were replaced by Hellhammer on drums and Dead on vocals; from the Swedish black metal band Morbid.
Mayhem recorded two songs for a compilation LP in spring 1990, and in the autumn they toured in east-Germany and Turkey.
In April 1991 Dead blew out his brains with a shotgun, and shortly after Necro Butcher left Mayhem. The band is still a 2-piece outfit consisting of Euronymous and Hellhammer, but a session vocalist for the upcoming LP "De Mysteriis dom Sathanas" is found in Attila Csihar from the Hungarian black metal band Tormentor. Count Grishnackh from the Norwegian Black Metal band Burzum will be session bassist.
The LP will also be released on DSP. There will shortly also be a live album from the '90 Leipzig concert available on the Italian label Obscure Plasma Records as a tribute to Dead.
